M Many of Oracle's fans have attended the annual City of Laurel Independence Day concert and fireworks presentations over the past years. Those of you who have attended have heard that not one penny of government money goes towards paying for the event. It is run by an independent organization sponsored by the city who spend countless hours every year lining up sponsors and donors from within the business community. You have also seen that private contributions are accepted in buckets at the stage and it the Independence Day committee booth on the grounds. Individual contributions are very important to the success of the event. Fireworks are expensive. Heck, renting enough Porta-Johns for an event this size is extremely expensive. You can imagine the hundreds of other incidental expenses are incurred. We now have yet another way for the general public to help contribute to the success of the event, while at the same time having a GREAT time dancing and partying along with us. On Saturday, March 18th Oracle will be performing a fundraising dance at American Legion Post 60 in Laurel, right on Main St near the MARC train station. All proceeds from the event are contributed to the Laurel Fourth of July Committee. TICKETS Tickets for this event are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Snacks, sodas, and draft beer are included in the tickets price. A cash bar and catered food will also be available. Call 301-725-5306 ext. 2444 or email FourthOfJuly@laurel.md.us to reserve your tickets. Advance tickets may also be purchased at the Legion. - OR - You can call Ed Souder at 301-706-3960 and he'll be happy to help you out. You may also purchase tickets at the door for $25 if you're not yet sure. PLEASE HELP SPREAD THE WORD We would appreciate it if all of our Oracle Family members and fans would help spread the word about this important fundraiser. If you're on FaceBook, visit the Event Page for the Laurel Fourth of July Committee and give them a "LIKE". Then hit the "Share" button and share it onto your own page to let your other FaceBook friends know about the event. We would also encourage you to visit the FaceBook Laurel Fourth of July Community Page and give them a "Like". You can also spread the word about the official Laurel Fourth of July Celebration website, where you can get all the details about the various activities that will be taking place leading up to and including the big day. The City of Laurel can always use volunteers! If you have some time on your hands please consider contacting the committee at the number listed above and let them know you'd be interested in volunteering. You can also help spread the word on other Social Media outlets like Twitter, Google+, or your own personal favorite site. Here's something to think about. If just one out of every 500 people that attends the Independence Day fireworks comes to the fundraiser, we'll have this event sold out BIG TIME! Won't you help us accomplish this goal? ORACLE BAND & THE AMERICAN LEGION Oracle has a history of performing for the folks at the American Legion that dates back to the very inception of the band some 16 years ago. We have performed at halls throughout the area, and as this is our SECOND performance at Post 60, we are REALLY looking forward to a big crowd!!! This place is BIG...lots of room to dance...plenty of room to spread out. Our commitment to our veterans has been unwavering from the earliest days of the band. The men and women of our armed forces who have served and who continue to serve have our utmost appreciation and respect. It is one of the reasons why almost ALL Oracle Band performances conclude with the tune Proud To Be An American by Lee Greenwood. This is not a song we simply trot out for patriotic holidays. Patriotism is year round, just as our troops serve year round, and we want to do our part to salute their sacrifices and commitment. |
