• These songwriters penned more than a dozen #1 hits while at Motown, including hits for The Four Tops, The Temptations, The Isley Brothers, and Marvin Gaye
• Originally performed by The Supremes, (Diana Ross, Mary Wilson, & Florence Ballard)
• The song was the first of 12 #1 Hits for The Supremes, going to #1 in July of 1964
• Ironically, the song was originally written for The Marvelettes, but they considered it to "light" to be a serious hit
• Berry Gordy. president of Motown Records, insisted that The Supremes record the song, over their objections
• Altogether The Supremes scored 33 Top 40 hits over 13 years
• The Supremes were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1988
