  • As originally performed by singer songwriter Elvin Bishop, (born October 21, 1942, in Glendale, California)
  • Bishop is one of the great blues men of the Chicago Blues style
  • In an interview with Songfacts.com's Carl Wiser,  Bishop was asked about whether there was a story behind the writing of the song.  Bishop said that "the better a song is, the less story there is to it, as far as I can tell. The best songs just come rushing out. I don't know if life squeezes them out of you, or if they're just so right that they take no thought. I don't know. Or if you're given a temporary connection to the flow of the universe, or whatever it is. But that song just damn near wrote itself, you know?"
  • The song reached # 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1976
  • It was Bishop's only song to ever crack the Top 40, although he remains an active and much sought after performer
  • In the summer of 2000 tragedy struck the Bishop family when his 22 year old daughter Selina was gruesomely murdered and dismembered in California as part of an extortion scheme gone bad
