- The song is
the title track to the movie "Footloose" starring Kevin Bacon & Lori
Singer. Also appearing in the movie are Dianne Wiest (from TV's "Law and
Order"), and Sarah Jessica Parker, (from the TV series "Sex
and the City")
- The song Footloose was written and originally
performed by Kenny Loggins
- The lyrics were written by Dean Pitchford, who also
wrote the screenplay for the movie
- Loggins was born 1/7/47 in Everett Washington and
raised in California
- His cousin is Dave Loggins, who wrote the song
"Please Come To Boston"
- Kenny Loggins is also well known as being one half of
the popular duo Loggins & Messina
- The movie Footloose was based on actual events that
took place in the tiny, rural farming community of Elmore City,
Oklahoma, who had actually banned dancing by ordinance back in 1889,
and continued to enforce it for almost a hundred years, when the Class
of 1980 won permission to have dancing at their prom
- Madonna had actually auditioned for one of the parts
in the movie, but didn't get the part
- Sarah Jessica Parker was nominated for the Young
Artist Award for Best Young Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture -
Musical, Comedy, Adventure or Drama
- Although Kevin Bacon's character was supposed to be a
high school student, Kevin was 27 years old when he made the movie
- The soundtrack album for Footloose was the #1 album
in the country for 10 weeks in 1984
- The song itself went straight to #1 on the Hot 100
chart and stayed there for four weeks in 1984
- Although Kenny Loggins has 14 Top 40 hits to his
credit, Footloose was the only one to hit #1
- It was the 8th of his 14 hits
- Even today at weddings and parties that he attends,
Kevin Bacon gives the DJ $20 not to play Footloose, explaining that this
is done so everyone won't shout out at him to perform for them like a
trained animal

Song Lyrics - Footloose
I been working so hard
Keep punching my card
Eight hours, for what?
Oh, tell me what I got
I get this feeling
That time's just holding me down
I'll hit the ceiling
Or else I'll tear up this town
Tonight I gotta cut
Loose, footloose
Kick off your Sunday shoes
Please, Louise
Pull me off a my knees
Jack, get back
C'mon before we crack
Lose, your blues
Everybody cut footloose
You're playing so cool
Obeying every rule
Dig way down in your heart
You're yearning, burning for some
Somebody to tell you
That life ain't passing you by
I'm trying to tell you
It will if you don't even try
You can fly if you'd only cut
Loose, footloose
Kick off your Sunday shoes
Ooh whee, Marie
Shake it, shake it for me
Whoa, Milo
C'mon, c'mon let go
Lose your blues
Everybody cut footloose
First - we got to turn it around
Second - you put your feet on the ground
Third - now take a hold of your soul
Four - whooooooooa, I'm turning it
Loose, footloose
Kick off your Sunday shoes
Ooh whee, Marie
Shake it, shake it for me
Whoa, Milo
C'mon, c'mon let go
Lose your blues
Everybody cut footloose
