- Written by George Jackson and Thomas E. Jones III
- Originally performed by Bob Seger (born Robert Clark Seger 5/6/45
in Detroit Michigan) & The Silver
Bullet Band
- The Silver Bullet Band was formed in 1974 in Detroit
- Its original members were:
- Drew Abbott, guitar
- Charlie Allen Martin, drums
- Rick Mannassa, keyboards
- Chris Campbell, bass guitar
- Alto Reed (whose real name is Thomas Neal
Cartmell), saxophones and flute
- Bob Seger was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall
of Fame in 2004
- Originally released on Seger's 1979 album
"Stranger In Town"
- A classic song today, and Seger's signature song, it only hit # 28 on the Top 40 charts, back in 1979
- It was the 7th of 19 Top 40 hits for Seger
- In 2001 the song was chosen by RIAA as one of the
Songs of the Century
- Although written originally by Jones & Jackson,
Seger later lamented that he had rewritten all of the verses, keeping
only the chorus from the original song, but didn't bother asking for
credit as he didn't believe the song would be very popular. The
decision proved to be costly, to say the least

Old Time Rock and Roll - Song Lyrics
Just take those old records off the shelf,
I'll sit and listen to 'em by myself,
Today's music ain't got the same soul,
I like that old time rock and roll.
Don't try and take me to a disco,
You'll never even get me out on the floor,
In ten minutes I'll be late for the door,
I like that old time rock and roll.
Still like that old time rock and roll,
That kind of music just soothes my soul,
I reminisce about the days of old,
With that old time rock and roll.
Won't go and hear 'em play a tango,
I'd rather hear some blues or funky old soul,
There's only one sure way to get me to go,
Start playin' old time rock and roll.
Still like that old time rock and roll,
That kind of music just soothes my soul,
I reminisce about the days of old,
With that old time rock and roll.
Call me a relic call me what you will,
Say I'm old fashioned say I'm over the hill.
Today's music ain't got the same soul,
I like that old time rock and roll.
Still like that old time rock and roll,
That kind of music just soothes my soul,
I reminisce about the days of old,
With that old time rock and roll.
Still like that old time rock and roll,
That kind of music just soothes my soul,
I reminisce about the days of old,
With that old time rock and roll.
