- Written & originally performed by Neil Diamond
(born 1/24/41 in Brooklyn NY)
- Diamond attended Brooklyn's Erasmus High School,
where he was in the chorus with another star to be, Barbara Streisand,
yet they didn't really know each other until years later
- He was inducted into the Songwriter's Hall Of Fame in
1984
- His popularity is worldwide, and has performed (and
continues to perform) to sold out crowds for over 40 years
- The song peaked at # 4 on the Billboard Top 40 charts in July
of 1969
- It was also a #3 hit on the Billboard Adult
Contemporary chart
- Without a doubt the most recognizable of all of the
38 Top 40 hits by Neil Diamond
- It was the 8th Top 40 hit of his career
- The song has been covered (but never charted), by
Frank Sinatra (one of Neil's favorite covers by another artist of one
of his songs), Elvis Presley, Bobby Womack (who had an R&B hit
with it in 1972), The Ventures, Dave Matthews Band, Andy Williams,
Boots Randolph, Jimmy Buffett, Ray Conniff, The Drifters, The Gap
Band, Roy Orbison, Waylon Jennings, Julio Iglesias, Enoch Light, Mad
Sin, and Chet Atkins
- Said Diamond of the song - I wrote it in Memphis
Tennessee in the hotel room on the day before a recording session. I
had written "Holly Holy" and "Brother Love's Travelling
Salvation Show," but we needed one more song. It's probably my
most universal song. People sing along with it everywhere. In Ireland,
I didn't have to sing at all. It just hit the right chord. No way to
explain it. That's one of the mysteries of songwriting.
Other Songs by Neil Diamond Performed by Oracle:
Where it began
I can't begin to know when
But then I know it's growin' strong
Was in the spring
And spring became the summer
Who'd have believed you'd come along
Hands, touchin' hands
Reaching out
Touching me
Touching you
Sweet Caroline
Good times never seemed so good
I've been inclined
To believe they never would
But now I
Look at the night
And it don't seem so lonely
We fill it up with only two
And when I hurt
Hurting runs off my shoulders
How can I hurt when I'm with you
Warm, touching warm
Reaching out
Touching me
Touching you
Sweet Caroline
Good times never seemed so good
I've been inclined
To believe they never would
Oh, no, no
Sweet Caroline
Good times never seemed so good
I've been inclined
To believe they never would
Sweet Caroline
