• From the Broadway musical and Paramount Pictures movie Grease
• The Broadway show opened at the Eden Theatre in Manhattan New York on February 14, 1972
• Rave reviews and a huge demand for tickets prompted the show to be moved to the much larger Royale Theater, and later still to the Majestic Theater
• All told the show had an original run of 3388 performances
• There have been several revivals of the show on Broadway over the years, and it remains one of the most popular shows in the repertoire for high school and community theater productions
• When it premiered in New York it was nominated for a total of 7 Tony Awards
• In 1978 the Broadway musical was made into a movie directed by Randal Kleiser
• The movie starred John Travolta, Olivia Newton-John, Stockard Channing, Jeff Conaway, and Eve Arden
• The music and lyrics for the original show were written by Jim Jacobs and William Casey
• The release of the movie saw several new musical numbers added, including "You're The One That I Want", written by long time Olivia Newton-John collaborator John Farrar
• The movie received five Golden Globe Award nominations and an Academy Award
• In 1996 a remixed medley of songs from the movie started making the rounds, and radio stations started picking it up and playing it
• The "Grease Megamix" became a classic, although it had never been released as a single
• The Grease Megamix reached #25 on the Billboard Hot 100 Airplay chart, but since it was not released as a single it did not chart n the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart
• The Megamix is comprised of 3 songs strung together in a medley from the movie:
  • Greased Lightening
  • You're The One That I Want
  • Summer Nights
• One of the great party medleys...almost guaranteed to fill the dance floor
