• From the Broadway musical and Paramount Pictures movie Grease
• The Broadway show opened at the Eden Theatre in Manhattan New York on February 14, 1972
• Rave reviews and a huge demand for tickets prompted the show to be moved to the much larger Royale Theater, and later still to the Majestic Theater
• All told the show had an original run of 3388 performances
• There have been several revivals of the show on Broadway over the years, and it remains one of the most popular shows in the repertoire for high school and community theater productions
• When it premiered in New York it was nominated for a total of 7 Tony Awards
• In 1978 the Broadway musical was made into a movie directed by Randal Kleiser
• The movie starred John Travolta, Olivia Newton-John, Stockard Channing, Jeff Conaway, and Eve Arden
• The music and lyrics for the original show were written by Jim Jacobs and William Casey
• The movie received five Golden Globe Award nominations and an Academy Award
• The original song was never released as a single due to it's questionable lyrics
• In 1996 a remixed medley of songs, including Greased Lightning, started getting played by DJs and radio stations
• The "Grease Megamix" became a classic, although it had never been released as a single
• When performed by Oracle as part of the Megamix we modify the lyrics to make them more acceptable in mixed company and respectable gatherings
