For the second year in a row Oracle Band returned to the stage at Granville-Gude Park in Laurel Maryland for their annual Independence Day concert & fireworks display. We couldn't have asked for a better day. The slightly overcast sky helped keep the heat down into the low 80s, and a cooling breeze from the lake make the entire day a delight. 	Setting up for a show this big is always a challenge, but it's an exciting one, considering that by the time the final strains of "Proud To Be An American" emanate from the PA, close to 80,000 people were listening.


	As the concert was getting under way and the crowds were starting to arrive, the upper pert of the hill above the lake played host to a classic car show, with some real beauties, including one owned by a pair of Oracle's best fans, (their's is the blue SS pictured below).





We were thrilled to have Steve's mom out in the audience to catch the show. She doesn't get out too often, but was able to make it out to spend the whole day with us, from the final stages of setup all the way through the last piece getting loaded into the trucks.



One of the best parts of doing these outdoor summer concerts is to watch the faces of the kids that come out to enjoy the show. It's pretty cool to watch them singing along with us...they sometimes know the words to the songs better than WE do! We feel that it's important to expose children to all sorts of music from a very early age. With school systems cutting music education in the schools in favor of programs that they consider more important, the state of musical accomplishment of our youth is declining rapidly. Any opportunity that presents itself to help expose the kids of today to as many forms of music as possible should be taken advantage of. The musical talent of the next generation is out there...it only needs to be recognized and encouraged.
